Patricia McMahon - President 2011

Pat is the 2011 President for TAHDI, having served as President-Elect since April of 2010, when she was appointed by the board to fill a vacancy. She has also previously served TAHDI as an education committee chair in 2010, facilitating a CMT and RMT prep course, and as TAHDI Board Secretary in 2007.
She has twice authored clinical articles in the Matrix, most recently in June 2010. Pat works as a transcription editor for the Congenital Heart Surgery Service at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, where she has worked for ten years. She joined AHDI and her local Gulf Coast Chapter in 2005, and quickly became active in promoting AHDI’s goal of improving healthcare documentation through education and advocacy.
She received her RMT credential in September of 2006, and a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from the University of New Mexico many years ago. She hopes to teach and publish more on medical terminology in the not-too-distant future. When she is not busy with AHDI projects, she likes to study Gaelic and Bengali languages.

Kathie Anderson - President-Elect 2011

I am Kathryn Anderson (better known as Kathie) and have been an active MT since 1964, certified since 1990, and awarded the AHDI-F designation in 2007. My first job was at John Sealy Hospital in the medical records department, transcription unit. Over the years I have seen my job evolve from IBM electric typewriters and 5 carbon copies to the current-day computers with internet connections. More importantly, I have seen this job evolve into a career, and finally to be recognized as a profession. Much of this evolution is a direct result of AAMT, now AHDI, leading the way to have our profession recognized by the Department of Labor. AHDI, in partnership with MTIA, now has an active voice in Washington DC and continues to campaign for our profession.
In the past, I have served as secretary of TAMT, delegate of TAMT, secretary of the Gulf Coast Chapter, and later as the president of GCC. I look forward to serving you---the Texas AHDI members---as your TAHDI President-Elect for 2011. I have a three-fold goal as my president-elect term begins: (1) To become an active part of increasing interest in the local chapters of TAHDI. (2) To reach out and discover the needs of Texas AHDI members not currently involved in a local chapter and address those needs. (3) To discover non-members of AHDI here in Texas who are involved in healthcare documentation and introduce them to the benefits of being a member of AHDI.

Kathy Melton - Secretary 2011

Hello TAHDI members,
My name is Kathy Melton, and I reside in Northeast Texas, about halfway between Dallas and Tyler. I have been a member of AHDI twice, this time since 2003. I currently chair the Visually Impaired Transcriptionist Alliance (VITA) for the second year. I teach an MT course for the blind/visually impaired, the mission of which is to have a totally accessible program, with no accommodation issues, and an emphasis on oral learning, and using adaptive technology to its best advantage. I also work with a local clinic, and was an MT for 25 years before starting to teach.
I have had secretarial experience in Lions clubs and church-related groups, as well as in a local chapter of an organization for the blind.
I look forward to being involved in my State's association, as much as I am currently involved with AHDI. I live in a very rural area, and getting to local meetings is difficult; so my goal is to work on line and via conferencing so that I will be aware of and a part of what our wonderful Texas Association is doing.
If I can answer any questions for you, please do not hesitate to email me at kathy@medtransclass.com
