I have been in this wonderful association since 1983 and have been certified since that time. After serving as President of our state association twice, Chapter Representative for the South Plains Chapter and the Big Country Chapter for many years, Texas Delegate to the AHDI House of Delegates for two years, and having had the honor of being elected to serve on the AAMT National Board of Directors for three years, I'm ready for another challenge as your president-elect for 2012. With the ongoing changes within the association, I feel excited and eager to continue our journey down to the road to a fully credentialed workforce. I would appreciate your confidence in me to do a good job. Thank you so much!

Hello TAHDI members,
My name is Kathy Melton, and I reside in Northeast Texas, about halfway between Dallas and Tyler. I have been a member of AHDI twice, this time since 2003. I currently chair the Visually Impaired Transcriptionist Alliance (VITA). I teach an MT course for the blind/visually impaired, the mission of which is to have a totally accessible program, with no accommodation issues, and an emphasis on oral learning, and using adaptive technology to its best advantage. I also work with a local clinic, and was an MT for 25 years before starting to teach.
I have had secretarial experience in Lions clubs and church-related groups, as well as in a local chapter of an organization for the blind.
I look forward to being involved in my State's association, as much as I am currently involved with AHDI. I live in a very rural area, and getting to local meetings is difficult; so my goal is to work online and via conferencing so that I will be aware of and a part of what our wonderful Texas Association is doing.
If I can answer any questions for you, please do not hesitate to email me at kathy@medtransclass.com
With sincere thanks,
Kathy Melton Owner/Instructor

Patricia McMahon, BS, RMT - Past President

Pat is the 2012 Past President for TAHDI, having served as President in 2011 and President-Elect in 2010. She has also previously served TAHDI as an education committee chair in 2010, facilitating a CMT and RMT prep course, and as TAHDI Board Secretary in 2007.
She has twice authored clinical articles in the Matrix, most recently in June 2010. Pat works as a transcription editor for the Congenital Heart Surgery Service at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, where she has worked for ten years. She joined AHDI and her local Gulf Coast Chapter in 2005, and quickly became active in promoting AHDI’s goal of improving healthcare documentation through education and advocacy.
She received her RMT credential in September of 2006, and a Bachelor of Science degree in anthropology from the University of New Mexico many years ago. She hopes to teach and publish more on medical terminology in the not-too-distant future. When she is not busy with AHDI projects, she likes to study Gaelic and Bengali languages.
